Frequently Asked Questions

What is therapy and how can it help me?

Therapy is a collaborative process where we work together to explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. It can help you address personal challenges, understand yourself better, and develop coping skills to manage life’s difficulties. Therapy can support healing from past trauma, enhance emotional awareness, and improve relationships.

What types of therapy do you offer?

My approach is informed by many modalities and theories, tailored to meet your specific needs:

  • Trauma-Informed Therapy: Understands how past trauma impacts your life, focusing on safety, empowerment, and resilience as you work through traumatic experiences.

  • Attachment-Based Therapy: Explores early relationships and how they influence current patterns in relationships, helping you build secure connections.

  • Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT): Helps you process emotions and connect to underlying needs, improving emotional regulation and relationships.

  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT): Combines principles of mindfulness and cognitive therapy to help individuals break free from negative thought patterns, particularly in relation to depression and anxiety.

  • Feminist Therapy & Social Justice Approaches: Focuses on the ways societal factors such as gender, power dynamics, oppression, and marginalization impact mental health. These approaches promote empowerment, equality, and social justice, addressing issues like systemic inequality, identity, and social change.

Are you accepting new clients?

Yes, I am currently accepting new clients. Please reach out to inquire about availability and scheduling.

Do you offer virtual or in-person therapy?

Yes, I offer both. I see clients in person in Picton, ON on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in Napanee, ON on Thursdays, or virtually Tuesday-Friday.

What should I expect during my first session?

In our first session, we will discuss your background, current concerns, and what you hope to achieve in therapy. I’ll introduce the approaches I use and how they may be helpful for you. It’s an opportunity for you to ask questions, get to know me, and decide if we’re a good match.

How long will therapy take?

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals and needs. Some people benefit from short-term therapy (a few months), while others may engage in longer-term therapy, especially when working through trauma or deep-rooted patterns. We will regularly assess progress to ensure we’re moving in the right direction.

How much does therapy cost and do you accept insurance?

My standard session rate is $140/50 minutes for individuals or $200/60 minutes for couples. I have a limited number of spaces available for sliding scale based on your financial situation. I do not directly accept insurance but can provide receipts for reimbursement if your plan covers Registered Psychotherapists. Please check with your provider for details on coverage.

What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?

I require at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This allows me to offer the time to someone else. Payment is required if you miss a session without 24 hours notice.

Do you offer therapy for couples or families?

Yes, I offer therapy for couples and families. Attachment-based and emotion-focused techniques are often helpful in these settings to improve communication, heal past wounds, and strengthen relationships.

What does “qualifying” in your title mean?

After earning a Master’s degree, psychotherapists registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario are initially classified in the "qualifying" category, where they practice with regular supervision. Upon completing the required hours, and passing an exam, they drop the “qualifying”.
